Soccer, the amazing game, covers nearly everywhere around the world, however, as the biggest sports country, the United States doesn’t seem interested, Soccer has little exposure here. It is common sense that America is the desert for people loving soccer, there are many reasons why people living in this land don’t like it, but I am not going to write about it this time because New York is the oasis in desert.
The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, usually referred to as Euro 2012, is the 14th European Championship for national soccer teams hold by UEFA. The final tournament is being hosted by Poland and Ukraine between 8 June and 1 July 2012 and it is the first time that Euro Cup is hosted by two nations. After another four years waiting, the party started again on Friday. There were two matches during the first day, Poland vs. Greece, Russia vs. Czech Republic, Russia made a dream start, they defeated the Czech Republic to take an early lead in Group A. To be honest, it was boring as opening day, except host country, there were no team from either Pot1 or Pot2 played, such as Spain, Netherland. Saturday was much better, I went a bar with my girlfriend Yu and Zach to watch the big game of Group B, Portugal played Germany, it was a great game and ended with Germany’s victory by their center forward Gomez’s heading play. Portugal tried their best to even the game during the last 15 minutes, but they unluckily missed couple of golden chances. Another game finished earlier was ended with Denmark’s unexpected won over Netherland. It was an amazing experience to watch sports game with friends in a bar with nice atmosphere. I don’t remember the name of the bar, but I definitely will go there again as games continue. Earlier this morning, the game between Spain and Italy tied as 1-1. I think it was the result that can be accepted by both side. Croatia opened up with a big victory over Ireland, and the final score is 3-1. The interesting thing here is that if Croatia can continue their performance and win next game, well, Spain and Italy are both in danger because it is very likely one of them can’t make the second round. Finally, England and France will battle for victory and dignity tomorrow.
