The city is hot.
The subway platforms are even hotter.
In Columbia or at home in Cincinnati, sweating, intense sweating is reserved for athletic activities, yard work and the occasional tanning session. I never sweat en route to an important destination because I’m always in an air conditioned car.
Unfortunately … I do not have that luxury here.
It never fails that I am drenched in sweat by the time I walk into the office. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cursed my reflection on the way into work. Hair … flat. Face … red. Eyes … smeared.
But luckily I’ve picked up a trick that has significantly improved my life/appearance.
Ladies: Don’t wear makeup to work. Sounds crazy. I know. But you will thank me.
It took me a month to figure out why / how everyone looked so put together even when it was 100+ degrees outside.
Invest in some sunglasses, master the top-knot, leave ten minutes early, and go to work with the bare minimum on your face. When you get there beeline to the bathroom and do your makeup.
Everyone in my office does it. Some of the men even switch shirts upon arriving to work.
Midday you can touch up your makeup, or switch your look from day to night if you are invited somewhere after work. It’s always better to be prepared.
A few of my posts feel trivial, but honestly these are the things I wish I was told before I got here.
