Katie Brennan and I decided one Saturday afternoon that we would escape from the concrete jungle and make the trek to visit her family in the beautiful, green Wisteria Lane-esque Westport, Connecticut.
As both she nor I had never traveled to Connecticut from the city, this was an adventure and learning experience for the both of us. We had heard of the easy commute that many business men and women make every day, but we did not know how to make it ourselves.
Simple solution: the Metro-North train.
The Metro-North train departs from Grand Central Station which takes about 15 minutes to get to if you take the 4 or 5 express train from Fulton.
Once you get to Grand Central, you will see Metro-North specific ticket machines off the main terminal. The M-N train has five lines and tickets range from $8-$15 depending on the length of your travel. We took the red, New Haven line (Hello, Yale) to Westport and our one-way ticket cost $11.
It was a very easy commute to make and took about an hour and change to get there. Although we don’t have enough time now, I’d definitely recommend a future trip to CT as a nice and easy getaway.
